MUSIC

Guitar is my first love, has always been with me and is always in my creative perspective.

I love to play anything with strings! I frequently teach and play many styles of guitar, ukulele, mandolin and banjo. I am naturally drawn to fingerstyle technique, but enjoy a diverse palate.

I'm currently exploring historic traditional instruments, such as the Chinese guqin.

I have recently challenged myself to play the accordion (this is not going well). Music is the language of my true self, I'm incredibly grateful for the impact it has had on every part of me. I write music constantly and continue to curate my lifetime of composition and art.

Professional experience with many styles of business writing and creative arts.

WORDS

I love words and have been lucky to build many valuable things with them! I am especially interested in language forms that challenge the borders between communication and emotion, or that capture the essence of a single moment. From poetry to fiction to essays and journalism, word-creativity has always been an inspired focus.

I study comparative literature, especially relating to the Classical world and ancient history. I'm fascinated that vast distances of time between people can be instantly bridged through the sharing of words common to the human experience.

I strive to be multi-lingual, studied Latin and Greek in college. Currently I'm learning Spanish and Japanese with hopes of travel and adventure in the near future.

TEACHING & LEARNING

Docendo Discimus

"By Teaching We Learn"  -Seneca The Younger

There has never been a time in my life that I wasn't teaching.  Sharing knowledge and providing inspiration is a sacred privilege. No other activity has been more enriching or had more of an effect on my character than teaching.

In addition to the amazing adventure of music lessons, I have worked in many classroom settings and especially in early childhood education. I have performed educational administration roles to coordinate services for schools and companies. I have collaborated with educators in professional development conferences as both presenter and participant. I have worked with boards and committees to develop policy for educational programs. I have written and implemented unique curricula and analyzed outcomes.

Children and families have always had an honored place in my work, but I teach all ages. Currently, my youngest music student is 9 and my oldest is 92!

"Chris Eck is a talented, creative, and compassionate human being ... (who) has nurtured my own creativity and interests in music while challenging me with traditional skills, unusual songs, and music theory. I appreciate that he views all students as unique and works with the student to chart their own path and make learning interesting and fun."                                            -Susan S.
